My indie bookshop is a huge part of my social life, and it just has my whole heart. I miss the book sellers, the book events, meeting with my book club IRL, and, of course, buying books!
I’m not sure when their doors will open again and when I’ll feel safe venturing out in public again, but I’m determined to continue to support my store even while I’m staying home.
Here’s a few things you can do to support your own local book stores!
1 – Use Libro.fm to purchase and listen to audiobooks! Proceeds from sales of audiobooks go to the indie bookstore of your choice! (Use code YAWINE and get three audiobooks for the price of one)
2- Call your bookshop and see if they offer curbside pickup! Many stores will allow you to pay over the phone, and then they’ll bring the books right out to the car for you!
3- Order online! Some book stores are offering discounts on media mail shipping right now, so be sure to check! Then you can have the books shipped straight to your house and feel good about contributing to your local community in the process.
4- Donate! Most bookshops have set up spaces on their websites to accept donations. Even a couple of dollars contribute to keeping your favorite booksellers paid and employed, so be sure to donate if you’re able to!
