Kiersten White Event Recap and Giveaway!

It’s always a great night when we get to see author Kiersten White at The King’s English Bookshop! Kiersten is so funny and intelligent, and I always love listening to her talk all things books, writing, and Buffy!

Kiersten wasn’t here on tour. She was on vacation to visit her fam here in Utah, but took the time out to do an event to support both our wonderful indie book shop here as well as our book community. Kiersten talked about what a passionate and dedicated community of readers and writers we have here in Utah. Clearly, I could not agree more with that!

I’m a huge fan of both And I Darken and Now I Rise. It’s clear while reading these books that Kiersten did a tremendous amount of research while preparing to write them, so it was so fascinating to hear about how she approached that research from reading historical texts from the area, researching grad student theses, to scouring the internet to try to figure out if a window in that time period and location would actually be able to open.

Kiersten also talked about some of her upcoming projects, which I could not be more excited for! She is currently working on book three of the And I Darken series (yay!). She’s also working on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer book that was announced earlier this year. And she has another secret project in the works that she’ll hopefully be able to discuss soon. I’ll certainly be anxiously awaiting news of that one!

Kiersten also shared one fantastic piece of writing advice, which I absolutely loved. She said that after you finish your writing for the day, go to the next page and just write out what you want to accomplish for that day. That way when you sit down to write, you aren’t faced with that daunting blank page!

Our YA and Wine book club members had such a great time attending this event, and we all hope to see Kiersten again when book three in this captivating series comes out!

Oh, that’s so fun you met her there! She really is hilarious. I was laughing almost the entire time she was speaking.

Such great writing advice! I haven’t heard another author say that one before either, so I really appreciated that. I hope you get to meet her one day too!

It really was nice of her, and we had such a great time getting to meet her again. Thanks, Meggy! 🙂

I love what White stopped at King’s English on her *vacation* to see you guys! So, was this an official event? How did this hook-up even happen? I swear, Kings English is a magical bookstore. I want to belong! 😉

I REALLY want to read this series. As I have already mentioned, historical fiction based on real events with real people have really captured my attention over time. I love the idea of Vlad as a woman and the repercussions of such a twist!

I know, right?! It was an official event. It was on the book store calendar and her event calendar for a while. It just wasn’t on her book tour. Kiersten’s from here, so I think she did it to support TKE, which is absolutely a magical bookstore! You are right about that! And you’re always welcome to come out! 🙂

So funny that we were just talking about historical fiction based on real events/people, because this one definitely fits that bill and in such an interesting way!

That’s really awesome– I love it when authors don’t forget where they are from! My first and only author event was to meeting Brittany Cavallaro who wrote A Study in Charlotte. She did her Masters at UW Madison, so she stopped by for an unofficial event when she was in town. It makes me so happy to see things like that. Now, if only more authors for the sort of books I want to read were from Madison, WI… 😉

You watch yourself, because someday I will! 😀 Salt Lake, here I come!

Oh, that’s so awesome! I would love to meet Brittany Cavallaro! I’m such a Sherlock Holmes nerd. I love the classic novels, the tv shows, the movies, and the spin off books (including Brittany’s). I love it when authors stop by locations just to show their support, like you said. That says a lot about them. 🙂

Lady, I have a guest room. You just let me know when! 😀

Oh, no! I’m so sorry you missed it. It is such a cool series. I love Kiersten White, and I’ve really enjoyed almost all of her books.
